Last week on IG – I shared something that I had been thinking about in regards to my closet, clothes, and my usual day to day attire. Mainly- I was so freaking tired of my closet being full of random shit I didn’t even wear and a big mess. As I have gotten older, I have found that my outlook on clothing has completely changed and I needed to re-evaluate what I was spending my money on. So I shared on IG stories that I wanted to start focusing on a more basic capsule wardrobe – y’all were SO excited and on board big time. Here are some rules that I shared for myself…

I felt like those were some easy rules to follow. I still had some fun options with my graphic tee obsession – but I was limiting myself otherwise. I can tell you that I have spent a week with this new mindset and it has already been a game changer. I ordered some new basic items that I could see myself wearing many many times in different ways and felt like a new woman HA! Also – the amount of times that I stopped myself from buying something that would be a cute outfit once and then a waste a money was ASTONISHING. I am such a hot mess y’all LOL. The other thing for me too is that I don’t really buy into the whole “better quality things cost more” idea anymore. Hear me out – I know some of you don’t agree- but times have changed. Places like Walmart, Amazon, and Target are providing clothing options that I can tell you right now are the exact same quality of higher end things. Now sure, there are some things that will never compare. BUT there are some things that I will never be able to actually spend that much on anymore. And if I am being honest – I shouldn’t. In the long run, even if I replace things like jeans and shorts every year – I will probably still save money. AND if I am going to spend some major cash on something – I would much rather it go to a small biz where someone is truly excited when I do. I tell you all this so you know where my head is at. There is no reason for any woman to not look like a million bucks anymore – we have the options, stick with me and I will share how I do it.
Ok that was long winded HA! With all that being said – I wanted to share where I have been shopping for my basics – Walmart and Amazon. Sure I have had to send back some duds – but here are some good ones that I am excited to add to my new basic mama wardrobe…let’s chat what I got!
-Denim! Jeans and shorts. I know we tend to hate them, but they are truly a basic necessity to build this basic wardrobe. Right now, my fave jeans are from walmart (I shared them in my last post and below as well). My fave denim shorts are from walmart and Old Navy. I am sharing a new walmart short below – I haven’t worn them yet – but I loved how they fit. I am going to do a whole denim short try on soon on my IG stories – probably next week. Also denim jacket is a must! I have three. I wear all three of them all the time! If you need to get one or unsure of where to start – try that one I am sharing from Walmart. An oversized, longer, not too light, not too dark wash, distressed, and inexpensive – its perfect. I got a large. You will wear it year round – even when its warm, around your waist is adorable!
-Leggings and joggers. BLACK BLACK BLACK. My faves hands down are Amazon. I included some different options below that I love. I have every pair. Now Lululemon is dreamy and probably one of the only things I will spend more than I should on – BUT these amazon ones are SO SO SO good – don’t you dare feel bad if you only buy those. Put lulu on your gift lists :). I am big believer in having many pairs of these so they are always available in your closet for dressing down and up! Year round – these are a closet staple.
-Oversized button downs. This one is a big trend this year – and I am here for it. I ordered a few men’s ones as well as a few women’s from Amazon. It can be styled many ways and so classic. I am going to share some ways to wear them soon – more about that at the end of this post :).
-Basic tees, sleeveless tees, tanks, and vnecks – STAPLES! Stock up on your basic colors ( I mentioned in the “rules” above what my colors would be, yours can be different!) and I mean stock up. Different fits or maybe only your absolute favorite one. If you find one you love. – buy all your basic colors. This is how you layer and get dressed easily every day bc when you change out layering tops, jewelry, and shoes – these pieces look different every time!
-Jewelry – you can have fun this one all the time BUT you need basics. My basic earrings are hoops. I have every metal in every size. Seriously. Always makes me feel so much prettier. And you can get them cheap everywhere -I usually order from Amazon. Same with bracelets and necklaces. Get some basic pieces that you can layer up and change up your looks or wear every single day.
-Hats and other accessories – I love hats. I have been picking up my fave basic ones that I know I can throw on 4th day hair and look great. If you like headbands – same with them. I know I need items for those days that I don’t want to get ready, but have to and need something easy. Hats do that for me.
-Hoodies, sweatshirts, cardigans, etc – these are staples for me too. Nothing better than a cozy something to throw over your outfit to make you feel better. Take care of them – and wear them all the time.
-Basic dresses – I don’t get dressed up a lot anymore and honestly that is where I would waste money the most, special occasions. I am trying my hardest to build basics up in that area so when something comes up I am not running to Old Navy and grabbing whatever I can find and instead, taking something I have and dressing it up. Think black, leopard, etc. I am sharing two cute Walmart finds!
I am sure I will share more things here and on IG as I thing about it.
I am so excited to share too that I am going to start a series in May to put my money where my mouth is – 31 days of Basic Mama! Yep, I am going to share basic outfits every single day of May that I am wearing and how I style these items to wear many times. Not gonna lie, this will be hard for me in many ways – but mainly means I have to get ready every day HA! But for real – I am excited and I hope y’all will like it too! Ok – enough talking, here are the items that I have been shopping. Walmart and Amazon right now – more to come! Happy perusing and shopping!

Link to all of these Walmart items!!!
