Ok we are 10 days out from Valentine’s Day – don’t panic if you feel like you have dropped the pink and red ball – THIS IS WHY WE HAVE AMAZON PRIME! I am going to share how I tackle V-day here in the Brown house…
- Attire: Obviously things have changed around here now that my kids are older – but I still try to have, at least the girls, wear pink and or red and myself as well. When Owen was younger, I would always be on the lookout for funny tees for Vday, but now he is harder to persuade. When they were younger – I was alllllll about it – it may have been last minute, but I was all over it. Here is my advice: keep it easy! Don’t overthink it! A cute graphic tee, and maybe some leggings for the girls, and you are covered. There are tons of accessories too like jewelry and headbands that you can order or pick up at Walmart or Target. Get a cute top and add accessories if you want and check that box! You can also buy them one size too big if it works (think oversized with leggings or joggers) and get two years out of it! You may be feeling like a failure (YOU SHOULD NOT!) because you missed the cut off for something monogrammed or embroidered – but I have saved many cute tees and outfits in my Amazon store for you – and I took care of the boys too! Now – don’t forget about yourself! You know that mom that always looks put together at class parties due to her cute holiday look – I bet she threw it together too! Vday is easy for us – find a cute pink or red top – add some fun earrings or necklace and BOOM you are ready! And you can wear it any other time too – you don’t have to get too specific, I mean you can, but you don’t have to! I included many options in my Amazon list as well for you – but Old Navy has lots too that I shared today in my IG stories :).
- Gifts – Ok so I might go a bit overboard for Vday. I just love holidays. Shane gets me something on his own and I usually get him something small. He does not think men should get Vday gifts – but I always sneak something in :). I do like buying for the kids though! I don’t spend too much and try to keep it practical and easy, with a Valentine’s day feel. One of my favorite gifts for the girls is some kind of bag (crossbody, backpack, whatever she needs) and fill it with candy, accessories, and maybe a gift card. I like to find red or pink bag because I am ridiculous – but they love it. Big kids like water bottles for school, hats, key chains, and lanyards. Little kids like all the fun accessories, candy, crafts, fun cups. Boys can be hard if you overthink it – just treat him to something small and add a gift card – done and done! Usually for Shane I just do his favorite candy and a book or movie. Or a gift card to his favorite fast food place. If you want to buy for girlfriends – there is so much really fabulous jewelry on Amazon that are great dupes of the big expensive brands. I have included many of all these examples in my Amazon list.
- Experience! We started a tradition a few years ago that we would have a fancy dinner as a family for Valentine’s Day. It is too hard for me and Shane to go out – so this is our answer and everyone loves it. I don’t necessarily cook anything fancy – just make the table fun and we have fun desserts. Everyone gets their gifts then too! We even have candles lit 🙂 and drink from champagne glasses. Even at 15 and 12, my older two love it – traditions can be started anytime and are so worth it. One thing about Vday I hate is the pressure. Shane and I have fought more Vdays than I care to admit – it is ridiculous. So we agreed to make it about the family and get a date night later – and just have fun with the gifts :). Keep it easy y’all!
Ok – those are my tips and I hope they help! Here is the link to the Amazon list of over 100 items to help y’all out! I am right here with you shopping – may the odds be ever in our favor!
