My most popular post on IG was this one.
The one where I was in an Old Navy dressing room and pissed that instead of a size 12, I was going to have to get a 14 in a super cute pair of distressed skinnies because they fit better. I shared how my mindset changed and why y’all should do that too. I am shocked still it was my most popular post, but it also told me something. This is a real issue for us and we need to come together and fix it. That last sentence sounded really dramatic – good Lord HA!
Sizing is really strange. At any given time, we can have up to four sizes in our closet and they all fit. Brands are all over the place and we can honestly no longer just “know” our size. But here is the deal: we still hold ourselves to an unreasonable standard. We want to be a certain size – maybe its the pre-pregnancy size, or our college size – or even just a size or two smaller than we are now. We work hard, and then when we need to go buy some jeans – if they are not that better size, well we are pissed. Y’all. This is ridiculous. Also note: when I say y’all, that is me included :). But it is RIDICULOUS. A size is nothing more these days than what that specific brand decided to put on that tag. You are not being fair to yourself for coming down or giving up because it is not what you “want” it to be. I have an idea – how about we lay off ourselves? Cut us some slack! Here is a fact: Just because you are a size 14 in one thing, it does not mean you are anything less than when you were a size 12. Nope. You are so much more than that size. You are so much more than that extra weight. You are you, beautiful you! You are not your waist size – you are your heart! You are not your thighs – you are your smile! You are not your booty – you are your personality! STOP IT! Remember this post – don’t make me read it again to you :). But the thing is – why would we get so hung up in a number in THIS SINGLE PAIR OF SKINNIES, because more than likely – you are not the same size in the next ones – HONESTLY! Take that truth and all the grace that comes with it. Go on now – do it – take it all in and relieve that stress. BUY THE SIZE THAT FITS. For real y’all . I can’t tell you how much better we look and feel when we go ahead and get the one that fits and not that one that is cutting off our circulation. The size does not mater – that is not just a lame quote – its real. Its just a number – remember that and GRACE UPON GRACE UPON GRACE!
Can we all just agree to something? Today, November 7th- all together? We will make a conscious effort to not let a number be such a hang up anymore. When we try on clothes – we buy them because we like them and how they make us feel – even if it is a much bigger size than “planned”. If you don’t like what you see in the mirror – stop right now and PRAY. Pray hard that the Lord will open your eyes to HOW FREAKING GORGEOUS He made you. It’s ok to pray for that, promise. In fact I am praying for every set of eyes reading this :). Let’s quit gauging times in our lives by what sizes we were wearing. Let’s live and enjoy the fact that the Lord woke us up today and we have the strength to get those damn skinnies on our legs :). I can guarantee, one day we will look back and be pissed that we wasted so much time being hung up on these pointless details and did not see the beauty around us in our people and lives. Take care of yourself – pray for guidance- and love your body that you have RIGHT NOW – the Lord will take care of the rest.
Remember those skinnies? Well here they are – still a 14, still fit great. But guess what? That shirt? A medium. That jacket? Medium too. It’s all good y’all. No more wasted days on that number. It honestly means NOTHING :).

One of my favorite RB posts ever. And I had the same issue in those exact pants (because of course the second you post something cute, I run and find it for myself, ha!). And I did get discouraged for a moment while trying them on but thinking about this post made me realize it’s just a number. Sure I want to lose those extra pounds but I’m not going to dress in clothes I don’t like just because I don’t want to go up a size! THANK YOU for making me realize that! Now I have a few items in my closet that are an XL instead of my usual L, but I’m okay with that now.
Such a great post and such a great reminder!
