I have the best news ever for you.
Are you ready for it? (cue the T Swift music!) (also cue boss Bree Brown and my niece Liv dancing because DUH)
You don’t have to figure it all out.
We might need to get that tatoo-ed on our bodies to remember it.
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FIGURE EVERYTHING OUT.
What do I always say? You were made for this exact moment, just as you are. But yet, we (me included) spend so many minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months STRESSING about we need to be doing, what we should be doing, and what we didn’t do. Right? So many times we miss all the goodness that is happening right in front of our noses because we are too busy looking for it. Read that a couple times – and then you will say OHHHHHHHHH :).
So let’s discuss what I am even talking about.
There are 3 facts that you need to remember as well.
- You are never alone
- You already have it in you.
- You have nothing to prove.
YOU ARE NEVER ALONE. This is so important to remember. We go through our days trying trying trying and we feel like we are all alone with so much on our shoulders. The truth is that we are never alone. The Lord is right there with you, just waiting on you to ask for help. Let me ask you something. Have you ever prayed for the little things? I am talking about “Lord, I am going to need you like woah today. I have a long to do list and not enough time. I feel overwhelmed and like the worst mom – please help me get through this day without losing it and remembering I used to pray for these days.”. Again, you do not have to go through your days alone. He is there and ready to help you. It’s A LOT to try to figure it all out and usually feels impossible, but nothing is impossible with him. Pray about it and link arms with your Lord – He will get you through it. You have lived through every bad day so far – and spoiler alert – you weren’t alone then either. But what if your bad days were not nearly as stressful? What if you felt a peace in the chaos because you are reminded that you were given these crazy days for a reason? I am not saying that by praying your day will suddenly be a good one and the stress will be gone – but what a relief it would be to know that you WILL get through it because He is there in front of you, pulling you through? So many times, I fall into the trap of praying “Lord, I need to figure out….” and then I catch myself. Nope. I have to remind myself that I don’t have to figure it out, He already has and will get me through it. We are not prepared to do this alone- He wants to be there every step of the way, in the small things and the BIG things. Try living the next week as if you are never alone – keep a conversation open with the Lord all day and see for your self what it feels like to have that HOLY CONFIDENCE. On to my next point…
HOLY CONFIDENCE – YOU ALREADY HAVE IT IN YOU! Do you feel like a confident person? I would bet that over 75% of you would say NOPE. Lack of confidence is an epidemic in my mind – I know that sounds dramatic. But I wholeheartedly believe it. I am not talking about arrogance – I am talking about true confidence in oneself to not hold yourself back from some of life’s most wonderful things! Here is the thing – I can’t tell you how to be more confident in yourself. I mean that is my thing, you know, spreading confidence like wild fire, but I can’t “make” you be more confident. But you know what? It’s already in you. Here is a quote that inspired this whole post:
“Self esteem says we can do it. Holy confidence says, in spite of us, God will.” (from another favorite Instagrammer @holleygerth)
I could not love that more. You can make yourself braver, have better self esteem, and be more confident, but GOD. He steps in when we retreat. He steps in and carries us to the places that we need true CONFIDENCE to go. And it is just sitting in the hearts and gut of so many of you ready to ROAR! You don’t have to figure out how to do it – your HOLY CONFIDENCE is there and will carry you if you let it. Have you ever had a moment that was super scary and you did it anyway? You know when you look back and it seems like a blur? Or you can remember how your stomach flipped or don’t even remember your feet touching the ground as you walked? That’s it! And you know what you lived to remember it today! You didn’t die! Why in the world do we not tap into that more and LET.HER.OUT!? You were not made to just get through life, change diapers, go to work, pay bills, make dinner, and die. Sure all those things are important – but you were made for SO MUCH MORE. You already have the confidence in you to go for it! SO DO IT! It’s not hard. I know, that may have made you mad – but it’s the truth. Childbirth is hard. Losing someone is hard. Wearing a freaking dress that fits you to a girls night rather than the usual outfit you hate is NOT HARD. Going to a play date and meeting new friends is NOT HARD. Posting a picture of yourself on Instagram is NOT HARD. Tap into that holy confidence you already have and DO IT! You don’t need “to get more confident”, you need to channel what the Lord is ready to do in you and find what you already have! In spite of us, HE WILL! And guess what? What He has in you, is more than good enough. Who you are is not accident and you have NOTHING TO PROVE.
NOTHING TO PROVE. Most of us met because of social media. But as I have mentioned before, it can be a poison. Most of our lack of confidence is from comparison of squares on our phones. Go read my last post if you need a gut punch on comparison, I will type all day if I go down that rabbit hole again HA! But I want you to know this: Your confidence and happiness will not look like mine. Or hers. Or hers. Or even hers. IT’S YOURS. And you have nothing to prove. You do you. You embrace the good work He is doing through you. He has already done everything we need to live a life without proving ourselves- so don’t fall into a trap of trying to prove yourself to anyone. ANYONE. A great book to read on this “Nothing to Prove” by Jennie Allen – SO GOOD. Do not try to force your life to look like someone else’s. You know what that will do? Take away all the confidence you can muster. That is how Satan works. He will use all that goodness against you. Don’t let him. You have nothing to prove. YOU ARE NOT AN ACCIDENT – your story is happening for a very specific reason – embrace it and run with it. Every one of us have an opportunity to share and be there for others – what is happening in you that could maybe encourage someone else? How amazing would it be to let the Lord use you to help someone with the exact same stresses? That is some crazy awesome holy confidence! Don’t you dare start coming down on yourself and say that is for people like you RB, not me. NOPE. Not gonna let you say that. There is nothing special about me. I just quit letting myself get in the way a long time ago. I let the Lord lead me down the many paths I have been on and I have to tap into that holy confidence every day to do things just like this. NOTHING TO PROVE y’all. NOTHING. Take that worry and shove it where the sun don’t shine.
Walking through life stressed because you have too much on your plate and not sure how you are going to get through each day is a problem almost all of us have. BUT. Please please please do not ever forget that you are not alone. You are not doing this alone. And you don’t have to figure out the impossible. Pray more. Pray constantly and remember you have it in you. The real you is not an accident (another goodie stolen from Rachel Hollis 🙂 ) and if you have to say that 20 times a day to yourself to remember that you are worth all the happiness, do it.
Thank GOD we do not have to figure it all out because I can tell you now that my world would be a bigger mess than I imagine in my head – hot mess dumpster fire HA!
No more wasted minutes, hours, days – holy confidence y’all. Get her out :).
Another great post Rachael! I am really enjoying your blog and the topics you are covering. Comparison and Confidence are such skills that rob one another back and forward. Looking forward to your next post.
